A decline in religious vocations has prompted the Jesuits in the United States and Canada to restructure the way they train future members of the pro-homosexual order. The Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States has announced that it will reduce the number of its novitiates from five to two by 2028. The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X is formally challenging the Vatican decree issued on 2 July by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith that excommunicated its six bishops. The outcome of the purported excommunication of the six bishops today will be far different from the outcome of the 1988 excommunications. In 1988, there was no visible reason for Catholics to doubt Pope John Paul II’s sincerity as a faithful Catholic. In the minds of most of the laity at the time, he at least appeared to be faithfully following the authentic teachings of the Church, at the same time. The SSPX was completely unknown to the world and was easily labeled as a breakaway religion. Yet, they survived and grew unimaginably. That is not the case today, as many Novus Ordo Catholics, whether they follow them or not, recognize that the SSPX strictly adheres to the authentic teachings of the Catholic Church, and that it is the leaders in Rome who are following the teachings of Vatican II.
