Leo XIV wants to beatify controversial Aids-Priest Don Luigi. Leo XIV has opened the way towards the beatification of Luigi Di Liegro (1928–1997), a Roman priest who wanted to be close to people dying of AIDS. The pope made the announcement on Friday during the diocesan assembly in the Basilica of St John Lateran. He said he had “gladly approved” the steps necessary to begin the diocesan investigation into Di Liegro’s life, virtues and reputation for holiness. The most controversial episode of Di Liegro’s ministry came in 1988. As head of Caritas Rome, he insisted on opening a home for people with AIDS at Villa Glori in Parioli — an affluent Roman neighbourhood. It was the height of the AIDS panic. HIV was associated particularly with drug users and homosexuals. Residents protested. More than a thousand signatures were reportedly collected against the home. Rome temporarily delayed the opening; demonstrators marched against the project, while scouts, environmentalists and others organised …Дукха

Leo XIV has not responded to an audience request for the Roman rite pilgrimage to Rome. The organisers of the pilgrimage “to the See of Peter” in late October requested a papal audience nine months ago, reports Edward Pentin on his Substack-Account. The request was made in a letter signed by two lay members of the organisation. It was personally delivered by Bishop Athanasius Schneider when he met Leo XIV last December. In the same letter, the organisers asked for permission to celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Altar of the Chair in St Peter’s Basilica, as had happened several times in the past. After repeated pleas for a response, the Secretariat of State on 7 August declined permission for the Mass in St Peter’s Basilica. No reason was given for the decision. The Mass will instead be held at the Basilica of St Mary Major on 24 October. Bishop Athanasius Schneider will be the celebrant. Picture: summorum-pontificum.org, #newsWdcyeqmhus
