The Diocese of Arlington, in Northern Virginia, has announced the creation of a new apostolate entrusted to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP), Bishop Michael Burbidge announced on June 19. With 21 locations, Arlington Diocese was one of the strongest for the Roman Rite in the United States. In 2022, the Diocese of Arlington reduced the number of "permitted" Mass locations from 21 to 8. Of those eight locations, only three - Saint Rita in Alexandria, Saint John the Beloved in McLean, and Saint Anthony of Padua Mission in Falls Church - received Vatican permission to continue Masses in parish churches.
