Vatican Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Becciu Accuser: The Vatican Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of Nicola Giampaolo for slandering Cardinal Angelo Becciu over his role at the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. The ruling confirms the Vatican Tribunal's October 2025 judgment, leaving Giampaolo's three-and-a-half-year prison sentence and damages in place. The Roman rite is "not an attack on the unity of the Church," Cardinal François-Xavier Bustillo, 57, of Ajaccio, France, told Italian daily Il Giornale on June 29.
